3His uncle left for Boston without him. But that didn’t stop him from dreaming. Spring came to the valley and once again, Dwight became restless. He wanted to make his own way in the world. He decided that his brothers could tend the farm without him. He packed his bags and headed off to Boston. But he only had enough money to leave the valley. He found a job at a local newspaper in Clinton. He wrote the addresses on the papers so the newsboys could deliver them. But soon the editor fired Dwight when some of the addresses were written incorrectly. A discouraged Dwight walked back to the valley to his home.

Time passed, but the old restlessness did not. It wasn’t long before he decided to try to go to Boston again. This time, his brother gave him enough money to make the trip. With $5 in his pocket, Dwight stepped on the train bound for Boston.

The sights and sounds of Boston excited him. First stop, to visit Uncle Samuel. His uncle owned a shoe shop and Dwight hoped that he would give him a job.

With confidence, Dwight walked into the store. A tiny bell ringed when the door closed behind him. “Hello, Uncle,” he said.

“D.L. Moody! What are you doing here?” his uncle exclaimed. It was obvious that he was not happy.

4“Well, I was hoping that you would give me a job,” Dwight answered.

“I can’t believe that you just up and left home without letting me know that you were coming,” his uncle remarked. “I do NOT have a job for you! You will have to find work and another place to stay. You should not have been so impulsive, young man.”

D.L. left the shoe shop. He would just go visit Uncle Lemuel. Perhaps, he could help.

Knocking on the door, Dwight didn’t feel as confident. “Hello, uncle,” Dwight said with a shaky voice when the door opened.

“D.L.,” his uncle greeted him, “My, my, look how you have grown. What are you doing in Boston?”

“Well, I really wanted to make my way in the world. So, I packed up and moved to Boston. I decided to visit you.”

“Come in, come in,” he said.

Will D.L. find what he is looking for in Boston or will he have to return home?
